Greetings Folks!

With less than a month to go before the show, I’m not sure where to begin! There is still so much to be done. So how about we start with what we will be doing at our meeting this Sunday to get prepared. For the second month in a row we won’t be having a hands-on workshop where you are learning a new and/or different way of working with leather. That being said, this months meeting will offer plenty of opportunity for some hands on work as we get the name badges ready as well as work on the raffle table containers.

We hope to have a number of folks working on each project, so bring any or all of these tools if you have them: Hole punch, (rotary or punch, mallet & cutting board) scissors, razor knife, cutting board, straight edge, and any other tools you feel we could use.

Besides the hands on work there will be plenty of talk about the show as we discuss the schedule and where help is still needed. Let me just highlight two of those now so that you can be thinking about them. The first is someone who can plan and take charge of running games/activities on Friday evening for those not involved in the Judging. (Bingo and activities such as this have worked well in the past.) The second is someone to print up some directional signs to be put on foam board and placed in strategic locations in the hotel. This is very important, as the vendor room & competition room are not side-by-side. Not to mention that the classrooms are scattered throughout the

hotel. We need to make it as easy as we can for everyone to find his or her way around.

Another thing I need you to think about is our guild display. More specifically, what items of yours will be proudly displayed on it. With many of you planning on being at the show, it sure would be great if we could have an all new display with some of your favorite/best work on it. And for those of you who won’t be at the show, or be coming later, just bring your display items to this months meeting and I will take care of them from there. That also holds true for your pieces for the competition and items for the raffle table. Okay? Any questions, just call before the meeting.

Hey, have you made your hotel reservation? The deadline is (was?) September 13th to be guaranteed our special pricing. When you call, don’t forget to tell them your are coming to the Harvest Of Leather Show. For those of you who called the hotel weeks ago to make reservations, only to be told that the hotel was booked solid, you might want to try them again. I do apologize for this.

The truth is that the hotel IS booked solid! But our rooms are a large part of that ‘solid’.  Whoever was at the front desk back then was unable to help a few of you. Again, I apologize. Please do try again.

Another reservation you might want to make while there is still time is to reserve your spot in one of the pre-show classes or one of the many mini-workshops that will be held Friday & Saturday. Applications are available on our website, at the meeting, or by US Postage if required. Folks, it’s not everyday that you have the opportunity to learn from so many talented leather craftsmen. And since these classes are filled on a first come, first served basis, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to sign up. Why take the chance of missing out on that one class you really wanted to take because you waited to long?

One last reminder for now. The drawings for the Tool Raffle, with the $1,000 top prize, $500 second & $250 third, as well as the autographed copy of Al Stohlmans Pictorial Carving Finesse will be held early afternoon on SATURDAY. You can get your tickets now via Pay Pal account missboll@gmail.com or you can send a check made out to 2006 IFOLG Show to Pat Hay, PO Box 98, Car y, MS 39054.

Folks, so many of you have already done so much to make this show a success, and soon all of your hard work will come to fruition. With everyone’s help we can not only have a successful show, but a fun & memorable one as well. Thanks for all that you do for this guild and the Art of Leathercraft!

                                                                                     Your Friend,

                                                                                Christopher
