Greetings Folks!

Can you believe that two months from when most of you read this newsletter, the 2006International Federation Of Leather Guilds Annual Show will be History??!! I know it has been the major topic for what seems like a long time, but wow has that time flown by! There is still much to be done, and although there are many, many things that can’t be done until the show is here, it would be great to know who is willing to do what. For instance, here is a quick list of things to do at the show. Please look this over and see if you can help in any of these areas, if you can, please let us know now: General setup, Guild display setup, helping vendors and other guilds get setup, registration, competition check in, competition room setup & iem placement, Judging, Scribing, manning the raffle table, greeting visitors & handing out show programs on Saturday, helping serve at the social/Awards Ceremony, and that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. The question to you is: Where can YOU help?

At this months meeting there will be no hands on demonstration like we normally try to do. Instead we will spend our time together discussing the show and all the different things that still need done now as well as during and after. We will also take this time to do a little planning for our upcoming meetings and work sessions. Since we would hope to gain at least a few folks at our meetings after the show, we want to be prepared to welcome, teach and equip each one in the wide world of leather craft, as we learn and grow in our knowledge in experience as well. So a few more things to think about are what you would like to learn, and possibly what you are willing to share.

(You don’t have to be an experienced teacher to

share what you already know how to do, just willing.)

Hey, are you one of the folks who said they would be willing to help make items for our cornucopia centerpieces? If you are, can you please let Peggy know what she can expect from you? And if you weren’t one of those people who said they could help, can I ask you to reconsider? What we are looking for are nice, small, items to be placed in the cornucopias and given away as show favors after the Awards Ceremony. If you can help please give Peggy a call at 724-846-5602, or drop her a line at: peggab@forcomm.net Thanks!

Last month I gave three suggestions on what each of us can be doing right now to help out with the show. They are three very important things; so let me remind you of them.

 1) 10  Buy a raffle ticket. The number one way we make money at these shows is on the raffle table. Right now you can buy a chance at $1,750 worth of tools & supplies, ($1,000 gift certificate to the tool maker/supplier of your choice to the winner. $500 for second place and $250 for third.) Also to be raffled off will be an autographed copy of Al Stohlman’s Pictorial Carving Finesse and a tribute to Al & Ann Stohlman called The Legacy by Billy 2-Shews.

Tickets can be purchased via Pay Pal account missboll@gmail.com or you can send a check made out to 2006 IFOLG Show to Pat Hay, PO Box 98, Cary, MS 39054.

     2) The second thing you can do is get donations for the raffle table. Not everyone who attends our show and buys a raffle ticket will be a leatherworker, so not everything on the raffle table needs to be leather related. What we are looking for are a variety of quality prizes. Gift certificates from the stores & restaurants you frequent, gift baskets, and nice hand made goods are just a few examples. And when you have an item for the raffle table, please let me know about it. That way we can have a label made for the ticket container as well as recognize the donor in our show program.

      3) The third thing you can do this week is get the word out. Let all of your friends & relatives know about the show. Put up flyers, with permission, at all of those stores & restaurants you go to. And if you have any contacts that can help us promote the show, please let us know about them. And if all goes according to plan, there should be a copy of the show flier with this newsletter.

Any help you can give in these three areas is greatly appreciated!

And don’t forget, if you want to get the discounted rate at the Day’s Inn, your reservation needs to be called in by September 11th. And when you call let them know you are coming to the International Federation Of Leather Guilds Show, Harvest Of Leather.

HELP NEEDED

Last month I let you know about John Hassan who lives in Center Moriches, (Long Island) New York. He is 73 and looking for someone who would like to correspond with him and discuss the basics of cutting patterns & hand stitching so that he can make nice gifts for more than 20 nurses at the VA Hospital. He would also love to come to our show in October, and is willing to share expenses with anyone who would be willing to stop by and pick him up.

As of yet no one has offered to help out. If you can, please give me. (I know people from many different guilds read this newsletter, and this gentleman is looking for help. You don’t have to be a Pitt Pounder to help out, just willing. Thanks.)

We are still looking for help for a few people who stopped by our booth at the Arts Festival. A Doctor from West Virginia is looking for someone who can make high-top moccasins for people with big feet and/or orthopedic inserts. There was also a lady looking for someone who can repair or replace her purse strap. Can you help either of these folks?? Let me know and I will get you the contact information.

Well that’s all for now folks. I look forward to your continued help and support in all that we try to do as a guild. May we all grow through the experience.

Your Friend,    Christopher
