Greetings Folks,
Ah, the Holidays. For most it is a special time of year when we make time for family & friends, a time for more than enough good food and all of those yearly traditions. And traditionally the December meeting of the Pitt Pounders means two things. First, the meeting is moved up one week early because as the month goes on, the busier most of us get. Secondly, we ask everyone to bring along some finger food so that we can enjoy some refreshments as we share in a good time of fellowship. Although we will take some time to finish up the cell phone cases that we started last month, we will not have a business meeting. So while we are enjoying some munchies and each others company, hopefully we can find some time to talk about what you would like to see happen in/with the PPLG in 2007. (What workshops you would like to see and/or teach. What outside activities you think the guild should be involved in. How we should promote our guild/our craft. Etc.) And also a change in leadership. So come ready to eat & ready to share your thoughts and ideas!
One thing that was mentioned in passing at last months meeting was a forum on the internet for sharing ideas. I didnt have the information handy at that time, but here is the address for a forum that is moderated by our web designer, Johanna Schroer: http://www.leatherworker.net/forum/ Not only are there some nice folks who are part of this group, they are very knowledgeable as well. Check it out when you have the time.
Speaking of time, Im curious how many of you are in the process of finishing, or even just starting, projects for the Holidays? This is a good month to bring in your latest project, even if its not quite finished yet, so that we can all see what you are making. Perhaps you can inspire someone else to try making one more gift. Heck, after our meeting there will still be two weeks left until Christmas! Thats still plenty of time, isnt it???
If youve got a 2007
calendar, you might want to mark these dates down. April 20-22, the Central Indiana Leathercrafters will be hosting
the 2007 Leather Show at the
Lastly, I got a call from Chuck Puhl last week. He is a saddle maker and proprietor of Buffalo Robes. He was to be one of the vendors at our show until he fell off a roof and got busted up pretty bad. He called to say he was doing well and starting back to work. He also wanted to say Thank you to all of the folks who signed a get-well card for him and sent their well wishes and prayers.
Folks, this time of years is busy for all of us. I do hope that you make the time to enjoy your family & friends, including all of your friends of the Pitt Pounders Leather Guild.
Merry Christmas! Christopher
December Project
This month we will finish the cell phone case we started last month. If you have not punched all the holes or slot for the clip, we will have punches available at the meeting. We will also have oil and finishing supplies available if necessary.
You will need 4 medium rivets and 3 short rivets to assemble the case along with a setter, mallet, and a small anvil to set the rivets.
I anticipate it will take about 5 minutes to complete the assembly once the finish is applied and dries.
We will also have Velcro dots available for fasteners to close the case.
Be sure to bring your phone to do the final fit of the fastener. If it is not available, we will show you how to fit that last piece and it will take you about 30 seconds to complete your case once the phone is available if you have a punch and setter.
See you at the meeting.
