Pitt Pounders Leather Guild

THE POUNDER

December 2008

The December meeting has been canceled.

Sorry Folks, but the Church where we have our meetings is having a Cantata on the 14th, and the 21st is just to close to Christmas. With everything that everyone has going on around the Holidays, we thought it only wise to cancel the meeting this month.

At our November meeting it was decided that in December we would combine a social time with refreshments along with our regular meeting. And although the December meeting has been canceled, the good news is that we will just postpone this social/meeting until January. So as you enjoy your Holiday entertaining, keep an eye out for ideas on some delicious goodies that you can bring in January.

Welcome

It’s always good to have new folks at our meetings, especially when they contribute to the meeting and take part in our worksession. This month we had the pleasure of having Kathy Kopsco, from Youngstown, Ohio, join us. Even though Kathy has been doing leather work for a few year’s, she was eager to learn more about figure carving as we worked on a chipmunk. Kathy, it was great to have you!

And we have our Ambassador, Dave Briggs, to thank for Kathy joining us. Dave is always out recruiting for our guild, and for leather working in general. He even offers a “taxi service” to help folks get to our meetings. Thanks Dave, for all you do!

Who’s next?

After another successful all day class with Paul Burnett, we asked you if you would like to have another Master come teach a class next Spring or early Summer. The answer was a resounding YES! So now, the question is who? Some of the names mentioned so far are: Silva Fox, Jan Schoonover & Paul Burnett again. Since we haven’t gotten in touch with anyone yet, there is still time to give us your thoughts. Who would YOU like to take a class from? Or to put it another way, what would YOU like to learn? Your input is important to us.

Guild Display Sign

A few months back we handed out pieces to be tooled/stamped/decorated to your liking for our new guild display sign. So far we have only gotten a couple back. If you got a piece or two, how’s it going? Now there is no rush to get these done, so don’t feel any pressure.  We may not be using our sign until the next IFOLG Show in Indianapolis. We just don’t want you to forget about them, plus we wanted to ask any of you who took two pieces to consider giving one back (If you haven’t started on it yet.) There were a number of our members who asked for a piece after we passed them all out. So if you have an extra, unused piece that you are willing to give to another member, please let Chris know. Thanks.

Tip Of The Month Our Tip Of The Month is usually brought to you by our friends at Leatherworker.net, where “Education, Entertainment & Fellowship” is what you will find in the world’s largest community of leatherworkers & saddle makers. But this month I will share a tip we learned at Paul’s Class: Instead of using masking tape on the back of your leather to keep it from stretching, use some clear, self adhesive contact paper. You can cut it to the size of your leather, peel the backing off and apply it to the back of your leather and you are good to go!

Merry Christmas

On behalf of all of the Officers of our guild, I would like to extend to you the warmest wishes for a Season filled with time spent with friends & family, joy & laughter, fond memories, and experiencing the true meaning of Christmas!

Enjoy!

Christopher
